ABOUT BENGAL CATS

Why the fancy names?

You may wonder why pedigree cats have complicated names. There is a method to the madness. Registered names tell a lot about each cat. For example:

Her official registered name is:
DiCaprio River Tam of PixelPerfect.

To decode that name, break it up into: DiCaprio River Tam of PixelPerfect.

Dicaprio (prefix) is the name of the breeder that produced her.
* All pedigree cats keep the prefix for life whether they become pets, breeding, or show cats.

River Tam is her name.
* Often shortened to a nickname (like "River") longer, unique names are better for recordkeeping.

of PixelPerfect (suffix) shows that she is owned by PixelPerfect.
* Names only include an "of" suffix if the cat is owned by a registered cattery.
* When a cat stays with the cattery that produced her there's no suffix.  You won't see a cat named Pixelperfect Kitty Cat of Pixel Perfect.  She would just be Pixelperfect Kitty Cat.
